Registration is open!

We are pleased to announce that the registration for the Symposium is now open! The program is looking very good, and we are looking forward to welcoming in-person and online participants in March!

We apologize for the delay in opening the registration portal. We had some unexpected changes due to COVID-19. Our original event venue is no longer available, yet, we are in the progress of securing a new venue. We will keep you posted as soon as the new venue is confirmed. If, however, the situation continues to deteriorate and in-person meetings for the number of participants are officially forbidden in Berlin, we will move the event online only. Should this happen (we hope not!), we will let all our participants know, no later than March 1st. On-line sessions will take place via Zoom and will be recorded and offered to participants to access for six months after the conference.

PLEASE READ CAREFULLY BEFORE REGISTERING

Considering the current unprecedented times – and difficulties related to processing refunds in a regular manner by the supporting institution (University of Geneva), the Organizing committee was forced to adjust the conditions of participation. There will be a flat non-refundable registration fee, no matter if joining online or in person:

100 Euros – standard

50 Euros – students (with a proof of enrollment)

The fees will be used to pay for the venue (in case of in-person event) or to support the activities of the SFC Network (in case if the event is moved online). Conference dinner (Day 2) and the tour of sustainable fashion scene in Berlin (Day 3), therefore, will not be included in the conference fee and should be paid separately by in-person participants. The fee cannot be refunded unless the event is completely cancelled (both online and offline).

Themes

The first symposium of the international research network on Sustainable Fashion Consumption (SFC) aims to bring together academic scholars and practitioners to share and discuss ongoing research in the field in efforts to contribute to a transition towards more sustainable forms of fashion consumption. The following core themes will be discussed at the Symposium:

  • Sustainable alternatives to fast fashion, sustainable fashion consumption practices, including second-hand shopping, swaps, and renting of clothing.
  • Trends of minimalism, downsizing and de-cluttering, mindful curation, and slow fashion.
  • Collaborative consumption and sharing economy in the fashion context.
  • Contributions from consumers to circular fashion.
  • Education for sustainable fashion consumption, including style education, mending and repair skills, post-purchase garment care, etc.
  • Fashion consumption practices in various geographical contexts.
  • Gender dimension of fashion consumption.
  • Policies and industry efforts required to achieve more sustainable fashion consumption (not only awareness raising but also changes in material arrangements, infrastructure, fiscal and other measures to create opportunities for consumers to shop more sustainably), etc.
